Hampden Underwriting Plc
Hampden Underwriting plc (“Hampden Underwriting” or “the Company”) has been incorporated primarily to provide a limited liability direct investment into the Lloyd’s insurance market in the UK. The Directors believe that Hampden Underwriting offers the only opportunity currently available for investment in a quoted company whose principal purpose is to participate in a spread portfolio of Lloyd’s syndicates rather than manage syndicates itself.
Hampden Underwriting’s subsidiary underwriting vehicle, Hampden Corporate Member Limited (“HCM”), trades within the Lloyd’s insurance market as a corporate member of Lloyd’s. An underwriting portfolio of £5.1m has been acquired for the 2008 Underwriting Account.
The portfolio provides a good spread of classes of business being concentrated in property insurance, reinsurance and motor business. In addition, in January 2008 Hampden Underwriting acquired a small corporate member which has capacity of £0.3m.
HCM is advised by Hampden Agencies Limited (“HAL”). HAL is the largest provider of third party capital to the Lloyd’s market, with over £1.5 billion of advised capacity for the 2008 year of account, which the Directors believe gives it an influential voice in the Lloyd’s market as a whole. Nomina plc (“Nomina”) will provide administration and support services to the Group.
Hampden Underwriting was incorporated and registered in England and Wales on 1 August 2006 under the Companies Act with registration number 05892671.
